Biography
Dramatic Soprano Jean Galiana’s most recent performances include appearances in the roles of Lady Macbeth (Dell Chamber Opera of Los Angeles) and Turandot (New York City’s DiCapo Opera Theater). Other recent appearances include turns as Donna Elvira, Clorinda, and Die Erste Dame with regional theaters of the West coast, including Opera Pasadena, Bear Valley Music Festival, Opera of the Foothills, Opera Nova, California’s The Intimate Opera Co, The Repertory Opera of Los Angeles and Golden West Opera. On the East coast, Jean has also been seen with New York’s Opera Manhattan and West Side Opera, in productions of Manon Lescaut ( Manon Lescaut ), and Pagliacci ( Nedda ).
Before moving into the dramatic repertoire, Ms. Galiana appeared in lyric soprano roles, appearing as Ilia ( Idomeneo ), with Eudoxie ( La Juive ), Mrs. Ford ( The Merry Wives of Windsor ), Blanche ( Dialogues Des Carmilites ), La Boheme’s Mimi and L’Elisir’s Adina, as well as Susanna, Adele, and Pamina.
In concert repertoire, Jean has been heard as Soprano Soloist in Verdi’s Requiem, Beethoven’s Symphony Nr. 9, Mendelssohn’s Elijah and Brahms’ Requiem, with St. Thomas the Apostle Church of Bloomfield and West Side Opera of New York. With St. John’s Church in Manhattan, Jean appeared as soprano soloist in Faure’s Requiem and Poulenc’s Gloria. With Babylon First Presbyterian Church and Greenwich Village’s famed cabaret Don’t Tell Mama, she was heard in a series of concerts devoted to the songs and arias of Strauss and Massenet.
Once a successful celebrity personal trainer in Los Angeles, Ms. Galiana is an accomplished dancer, trained in Ballet and Jazz, and is a graduate of California State University at Irvine. She studied acting with Los Angeles’ Phil Meyer, and completed coursework at the Tracy Roberts Acting Studio. Jean is a student of William Glazier and makes her home in Mount Vernon, New York. Her new roles include Ellettra, Sieglinde, Elsa and Minnie. Operas in preparation include Salome, Nabucco, Elektra, Il Trovatore, Tosca, Un Ballo in Maschera, Andrea Chenier, Don Carlos, and Der Freischütz.
